The building of the memorial museum having been the home of the writer from 1897 to 1922 can be found some fifty metres behind the Northern (or back) gate of the castle.

He wrote a lot of his works in this house including Stars of Eger (the English translation is titled: Eclipse of the Crescent Moon). This outstanding historic novel comemorates anti-Ottoman Turkish fights of the 16th c.. The hall of the house has always been a store for books. In the bedroom almost every piece of furniture is on its original place. He wrote Stars of Eger on the little, carved desk facing the castle. The paintings, landscapes on boards show that he was fond of painting. the bedroom is furnished simply, but cosy. The study is rather a hall. Its walls painted brown recall tobacco, the only passion of Gárdonyi. The skylight in the ceiling made good use to exclude noise by closed windows in daytime. He had about ten thousand books, rich, various in their topics. When entering you can see th ebig desk of the writer where so many valuable works were written. Also here can be seen a Hungarian musical instrument, cimbal, gift from Pista Dankó, gipsy musician. The writer's secret writing in cipher notes are in the showcases. The bronze statue of the writer by Árpád Somogyi can be found in the garden.
